This module gives students the opportunity to develop their research skills so that they are able to critically analyse their methodological approach.

Action Research: Review of Literature

This module is designed to enable students to become more effective practitioners by further enhancing their investigative, analytical, practical, communicative, collaborative and critical competencies.

Citizenship, the Social Economy and Community Development

Students are provided with an opportunity to analyse the role and potential of the social economy within the context of global economic change and transformation.

Community Development & Globalisation

In this module students will have an opportunity to explore current debates in development theory and their links to community development in a global context.

Community Development Project Management

This module engages participants in the key processes, stages, skills and knowledge involved in community development project management.

Community Development Project Planning, Monitoring and Evaluatio

This module involves the development and application of practical project design knowledge and skills and engages participants in the key processes, stages, skills and learning involved in community project monitoring and evaluation.

Developing the Reflective Practitioner

This module aims to give students the opportunity to reflect on issues of professionalisation and pinpoint areas for professional development. It enables students to gain tools in critical reflection.

Research Methods

This module will develop student understanding of issues pertaining to social research. It will draw on case study material to explore the merits of quantitative and qualitative approaches and triangulation.

Student Placement

The placement is an opportunity for the student to gain professional practical skills in community work and develop an understanding of working in the field of community development.

Theories of Welfare

This module examines in detail the main theoretical approaches and concepts developed in the area of social policy. It will equip students with a broad understanding of these and the contribution of comparative analysis.

Voluntary organisations and welfare

This module enables students to develop a critical understanding of contemporary issues and theories of voluntary action in relation to the development of social welfare

Volunteering in the Community

This module is for students who want to be involved in voluntary activity and understand more about the relationship between community and voluntary activity and the wider society.
