Hunger, poverty, war, disasters, refugees, and many other global issues are piling up. As globalization progresses, these events are not just fires on the other side of the river, but are also affecting our immediate society. In many cases, existing governments, international organizations, and corporations alone are unable to resolve these issues, and the role of NGOs and NPOs (non-governmental, non-profit organizations), which were established by citizens on their own initiative, has been increasing. In this lecture, we will discuss the current situation and roles of NGOs and NPOs, and learn from the voices of actual leaders in the field of NGOs and NPOs as guest speakers. In the latter half of the lecture, we will explore how each of us can get involved in international and social issues through workshops in which we will actually plan projects.
