Management of NPO

NPOの経営

Credit Bearing: 2
Level: Graduate

Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs), or non-profit organizations, can take many forms. Their common characteristic is that they "change people," unlike private corporations that seek profit while satisfying the needs of their customers, or governments that create and implement policy. Nonprofit organizations are straightforward places of self-actualization, and because they must draw on the strengths of volunteers, they are also places that require a high degree of management.
In this course, students will learn the essence of mission/leadership/management that can be seen only in NPOs, drawing on actual examples of various nonprofit organizations.

NPO (Non-Profit Organization)、

NPO/NGO Theory and Volunteering

Credit Bearing: 2
Level: Undergraduate

(Summary) It has been some time since we began to hear the terms NPO (Non-profit Organization) and NGO (Non-governmental Organization). NPOs and NGOs, which are attracting attention as the "third public," face a variety of social issues, including poverty, education, the environment, and healthcare, and are engaged in a variety of initiatives. In this course, we will focus particularly on issues surrounding education (educational issues in Japan/education issues in developing countries), learn about the characteristics and roles of NPOs and NGOs working to solve such issues, and examine the impact they have on society.
Many of the activities of NPOs and NGOs are supported by volunteers, and since volunteers also confront social problems and develop their activities, the activities themselves are considered to have meaning as lifelong learning for the volunteers themselves. Therefore, in this course, volunteer activities will also be discussed, with the ultimate goal of connecting the knowledge acquired in the class to the students' own volunteer practices and social contribution activities.

(Objectives)

1. to learn about the principles and characteristics of NPOs and NGOs and understand the impact their existence has on society.

2.To understand the history and current status of volunteer activities.
3. to be able to express in one's own words one's own ideas about the roles of NPOs and NGOs, the challenges of volunteer activities, and the social problems that lie behind such activities.
4. to connect the knowledge acquired in class to the students' own volunteer practice and social contribution activities.

(概要) NPO(Non-profit Organization、非営利組織)、NGO(Non-governmental Organization、非政府組織)という言葉を耳にするようになって久しい。
