The activities of NPOs and NGOs (private non-profit organizations) attracted attention through the relief activities following the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995. The Law for the Promotion of Specified Nonprofit Activities (commonly known as the NPO Law) was enacted in 1998, and institutional support began to be put in place. Various efforts are being made by various organizations in 20 fields such as community development, welfare, environment, and international cooperation, and they have become an indispensable presence that supports our daily lives. In 2015, the United Nations launched the "Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development," and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are now in effect. In the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), NPOs and NGOs are expected to play a major role. NGOs are expected to play a major role in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG, SDGs). In this class, students will learn about the role and reality of NPOs and NGOs from the perspective of volunteerism and social contribution, as well as their social significance and challenges.
