Sociology of Volunteers and NPOs

ボランティア・NPOの社会学

Today, volunteer and non-profit organization are commonly heard terms. The major difference between the two is that volunteer refers to an individual and NPO refers to an organization. Volunteers have been attracting social attention in Japan since the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995, while NPOs have been attracting social attention since the enactment of the NPO Law in 1998. However, NPOs cannot exist without the voluntary participation of volunteers. The two are inseparable. This lecture will clarify the difference between NPOs and corporations and government agencies through literature and case studies. We will also visit NPOs and civic groups around the university.

現在、ボランティアやNPOは普通によく聞く言葉となっています。両者の大きな違いは、ボランティアは個人、NPOは組織を指しているところにあります。ボランティアは日本では1995年の阪神淡路大震災から、NPOは1998年のNPO法の成立から社会的に注目されるようになりました。しかしNPOは、ボランティアの自発的参加がなければ存立できません。両者は切っても切れない関係にあります。その実際を文献や事例から明らかにし、企業や行政との違いをはっきりさせます。また大学周辺のNPOや市民団体の訪問も行います。
