International Activities of NPOs and NGOs

Credit Bearing: 2
Level: Undergraduate(学部)

The lecture will focus on non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and non-profit organizations (NPOs) (hereafter, NPOs and NGOs will be treated as almost the same thing, and the term NGO will be used interchangeably), which have not only attracted media attention, but are already recognized as essential to society. One of the reasons why NGOs are attracting attention is that, mainly in developed countries, the activities of traditional organizations such as governments, corporations, and families that have mitigated individual survival risks have been forced to stagnate, and the modern society is becoming more and more characterized as a risk society. The advantages of NGOs, which are diverse and can provide support in a more personalized manner, are attracting more attention. On the other hand, it can be pointed out that NGOs are attracting attention, especially in developing countries that are still in the process of democratization, as the activation of NGOs and the expansion of civil society will determine the future course of democratization.
