NPO Management Strategy

NPO経営戦略論

Various NPOs and NGOs are active in society. Why do non-profit organizations exist in an economic society? What are their relationships with governments, corporations, and citizens, and how do they work together? This class will cover these basic concepts about NPOs, policies related to NPOs, and management methods of organizations and their characteristics. In particular, we will introduce the basic management methods of NPOs, as well as the introduction of online fundraising (crowdfunding) and public relations, which have become increasingly popular in recent years, and case studies of activities in various fields.

社会では様々なNPOやNGOが活躍しています。経済社会において、営利を追求しない組織がなぜ存在するのでしょうか。また、政府、企業、市民とどのような関係にあり、どのように連携して活動しているのでしょうか。この授業では、これらのNPOに関する基本的概念、NPOに関する政策、組織の経営手法とその特徴を対象にします。特に、NPOの経営については、基本的な経営手法に加え、近年広まりをみせるオンラインによる資金調達（クラウドファンディング）や広報などの導入事例や様々な分野の活動事例なども紹介していきます。

Although the term NPO has become widely known since the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, many students seem to have various misconceptions about NPOs, such as regarding NPOs and volunteers as meaning the same thing, or thinking that NPOs should not make money. It is true that volunteers are valuable labor for NPOs, but NPOs do not exist solely on the basis of volunteers. Also, many students think NPOs are special or new, but hospitals, private schools, and temples are representative examples of NPOs that are extremely close to our daily lives. Many students may think that NPO is a new word, but in ancient times, there were NPOs called terakoya, where monks and warriors taught reading, writing, and abacus to children of common people. The Japan Sumo Association, the Japan Soccer Association, and the Japan High School Baseball Federation are also NPOs. In this lecture, you will learn about the differences between NPOs and volunteers, the difference between NPOs and NGOs, the types of NPOs and their characteristics, and are the United Nations NPO, how the United Nations is an NPO. 

阪神淡路大震災以降、NPOという言葉が広く知られるようになりましたが、NPOとボランティアは同じ意味に捉えていたり、NPOは儲けてはいけないと思っていたり、NPOに関する様々な誤解をしている学生も多いようです。確かにボランティアはNPOにとって貴重な労働力だが、ボランティアだけでNPOが成り立っているわけではありません。またNPOは特別な存在、あるいは新しい存在と考える学生も多いですが、病院、私立学校、お寺などは、私たちの身近にあるNPOの代表例であり、私たちの生活にきわめて身近な存在です。またNPOは新しい言葉だと考える学生も多いと思いますが、古くは、僧侶や武士などが庶民の子供たちに、読み、書き、そろばんを教えた寺子屋と呼ばれるNPOがありました。日頃よく耳にする日本相撲協会、日本サッカー協会、日本高等学校野球連盟も財団法人と呼ばれるNPOの一種です。 この講義では、NPOとは？NPOとボランティアの違いは？NPOとNGOの違いは？NPOの種類と特色は？国連はNPO？など、NPOについて誰もが抱く身近な質問に答えながら、NPOについての幅広い知識を修得します。
