In this course, we will examine the historical origins of NPOs and NGOs, their spiritual principles, and their relationship with the volunteer movement, with a view to gaining legitimate recognition and positioning for the volunteer movement and NPOs and NGOs in Japanese civil society, with a particular focus on the subject formation of self-government at the community level and the so-called developing country The study will examine these issues with a particular focus on the problems of the developing countries. The characteristics and problems of NPO law will also be examined from a practical perspective. In doing so, the current status and issues of the volunteer movement and the activities of NPOs and NGOs will be examined as problems for the students themselves as members of modern civil society, through learning with the body and mind (physical cognitive knowledge) and participatory learning by actually being in the field. Students are also required to practice off-campus volunteer activities (details will be explained in class).

本講では、NPO・NGOの発生の歴史的起源とその精神的理念、ボランティア運動との諸関係を基軸に据え、ボランティア運動やNPO・NGOが日本の市民社会の中で正当な認識と位置づけを獲得することを目標に、コミュニティレベルでの自治の主体形成と、いわゆる発展途上国問題を特に視野に入れて考察していく。またNPO法の特質と問題点を実践的な視点から考察する。その際、ボランティア運動やNPO・NGOの活動の現状と課題を、実際にその現場に身を置き、身体と心を伴った学び（身体的認識知）と参加型学習をとおして、近代市民社会の構成員たる自らの問題として考究する。また学外でのボランティア活動の実践を必修とする（詳細は授業で説明）。
