Our Role in Japanese Society in a Globalizing World: The SDGs and Us
More than 30 years have passed since market supremacy began to dominate the world. Globalization is connecting the world as one. And it is being integrated into one market. The economic pie is getting bigger, but at the same time, inequality and environmental problems are becoming more serious. This session will outline these aspects and deepen understanding of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were developed as a way of approaching such major issues. While governments, local governments, and corporations are increasingly taking action on the SDGs, we will also learn about the trends in the civil sector, especially NGOs, starting with basic knowledge of NGOs and the significance of their existence and activities. Through these processes, students will learn what they themselves can do as a member of the civil sector. The class will proceed in such a way that students will eventually be able to think about what they can do as a member of the civil sector.

NPO Studies
NPO論
Credit Bearing: 2Level: Undergraduate
In the 20 years since the enactment of the Law for the Promotion of Specified Nonprofit Activities, NPOs (private nonprofit organizations) have developed various activities in various fields of society and have become indispensable for the creation of a sustainable civil society and community. They are more than just volunteer organizations or charities; they are also a means of realizing citizens' participation in society through civic projects. In this lecture, students will learn the historical background, theory, functions, and related legal systems of NPOs, as well as case studies based on specific activities, while understanding the origins of what NPOs are. Students will consider the significance of the existence of NPOs in light of diversifying social conditions and link this to practical actions. This class is a practical education course in which the faculty members in charge of the course make use of their practical experience.
