Corporate Social Responsibility: Perspectives and Practices
The course examines the evolved notion of corporate [social] responsibility in the modern day corporations. The new age corporations are attempting to balance the pursuit of profit and wealth creation not only with societal requirements and expectations but also meeting these expectations within the limited physical and environmental resources and thereby facilitate sustainable and equitable living for the present and future generations. By exploring and establishing the link between corporate goals and societal objectives this course would attempt to sensitize students to appreciate the need for a larger corporate vision rather than the narrow goal of profit making. The latter half of the course is devoted to critical examination of the mandatory corporate social responsibilities as per the Indian companies Act vs. CSR as a strategic initiative.
