Communication is a vital skill in the management of nonprofit organizations. Students are introduced to the specialized writing required in the nonprofit sector, including grant writing, annual reports and stewardship reports. Students learn to prepare clear and effective oral and written reports and proposals and to communicate information in a manner appropriate to the content and the audience. Through a combination of exercises and independent learning, students practise preparing reports and proposals, delivering presentations, reading, listening and using technology to communicate professionally.

Funds are the lifeblood of every organization and their management is a vital skill. Students learn the financial management of nonprofit organizations and develop an understanding of accounting, budgeting techniques, financial reporting, and financial analysis. Through practical exercises, problems and case studies, students prepare various financial reports, use appropriate techniques to develop budgets, funding and fundraising plans, identify and analyze sources of financing and apply internal control principles.

Students gain practical skills required to develop, lead and participate effectively in multi-functional teams to foster creative energy. Students learn the roles of the board of directors, other senior executives and key committees, and to identify and coordinate the interrelationship among functional areas. Through readings, discussions and a variety of simulated team environments, students learn the requirements and responsibilities of effective collaborative work.
