Civil Society and Nonprofit Organizations Management
Credit Bearing: Yes
Level: Graduate
Discipline: Public Administration

The course "Civil Society and Nonprofit Organizations Management" delves into the current dynamics of civil society organizations, highlighting their fundamental role in promoting democracy and institutional transformation. While some movements challenge the democratic status quo, others defend and strengthen its essence, propelling a fairer and more inclusive society. Based on the premise that social movements are agents of institutional change, this course explores the intersection of studies on civil society, social movements, and organizational management. We investigate how civil society organizations influence public policies and state management and how nonprofit organizations position themselves in this context. We will also explore the diversity of civil society organizations, demonstrating how the sector is diverse and broad enough to accommodate even uncivil elements and organizational forms. By addressing management and leadership models, we examine the various forms of community engagement, from informal networks to formalized advocacy organizations. Recognizing the crucial importance of management in nonprofit organizations, this course offers students a comprehensive understanding of the sector and essential management practices. Students will be encouraged to actively participate in the course through debates, seminars, and a final project. This will enable them to test their knowledge, develop strategies and ideas, and receive immediate feedback, promoting dynamic and interactive learning.
