From Virtual Worlds at Seton Hall
Long terms goals include:
- Continuing support for and further development of existing initiatives
- Determining how the current projects fit into a larger program and developing a strategic plan for integration of these various projects
- Developing a plan for student and faculty support (workshops/one day seminars/online resources)
- Publicizing broadly to encourage greater faculty and student participation
- Investigating a variety of virtual world platforms
- Reaching out to other institutions to form collaborations
- Exploring venues for research and publication
The group’s objectives for Fall 2008 include:
- Further developing the Virtual Worlds Blog, Wiki and Newsletter
- Encouraging department participation in/development of virtual world projects through a “roadshow” designed with the interests of specific departments in mind (such as Art and Music, Communication, and Psychology)
- Organize a Best Practices Showcase for faculty so they can see current virtual-world projects
- Create a showcase area for student work and reach out to specific student groups (fraternities and sororities, DOVE, SGA) to help them see the potential for things such as fundraising and collaboration in virtual worlds
- Sponsor an interactive tour of educational builds in SL, possibly in partnership with other institutions.
