From Virtual Worlds at Seton Hall
”Pirate Island”’
Pirate Island is Seton Hall University's Second Life land presence. It is nestled within the islands of the New Media Consortium (NMC) community and to access it one must register with the NMC SL group. Instructions for joining the group can be found at http://sl.nmc.org/join/. Once an avatar has joined the NMC group Pirate Island can be accessed by either searching for Seton Hall under the Map tool or by clicking on the following Slurl: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Seton%20Hall/63/201/23/.
The island currently houses two projects: The House of Seven Gables and Virtual Marsh. More information about both of these projects can be found in the portfolio section of this wiki. In addition to providing virtual land for faculty projects the island is also used as a meeting space for faculty and students, a venue for showcasing faculty and student work in conjunction with the TLT Center, and a creative way to find out more about the use of educational technology at Seton Hall University.
Currently only the House of Seven Gables and Virtual Marsh have been built out on the island (more work is coming in the next few months on the Virtual Marsh). The Virtual Worlds Collaboration Group is working on completing the rest of the island. For more details see the section on the Future Development of the Island.
